PROJ587 Week 5 Case Study in $10 Only

The purpose of this case study is to get you used to incorporating Microsoft Project charts and reports directly into your project’s progress reports. By now you should be able to work through the mechanics of loading tasks, predecessors, resources, and costs into MS Project. But the real challenge facing project managers is how to interpret the data in MS Project and how to make it “useful” for you and your stakeholders.

In this case study you will be given a scenario and asked to load the project information into Microsoft Project. However, the purpose of this case study is bigger than just properly loading the Microsoft Project file. This case study requires you to interpret the MS Project results and incorporate the issues and results in your communication with key stakeholders. Your output of this case study explores the “softer” side of project management, including how to communicate your results to your key stakeholders in a clear and concise manner and to include MS Project views directly in the document to illustrate your points for your reader.

MGMT 410 Week 2 Case Study Off-the-Job Behaviors

Case Study: Off-the-Job Behaviors

Overview – You will remember that the lecture mentioned that HR professionals are often criticized as being vacillators who often give the dreaded response of “it depends” when asked about the legality of a situation. Balancing the rights of employees with protecting the organization is often complex and may deal with employee behavior both on and off the job. This exercise will shed some light on how off-the-job behaviors may impact the organization and what Winn-Dixie chose to do about perceived damage to their image. Reviewing this case study will reveal the complexity of employment law and the dilemma it poses for HR professionals who want to both support employees in the best way possible and protect the organization at the same time.

Learning Questions – After reviewing the textbook case study on pages 107 and 108 of your textbook, answer the following learning questions:

1. Do you believe OilerÂ’s employee rights were violated? Explain your position.

2. What do you see are the consequences of organizations that punish employees for certain off-the-job behaviors? Explain.

3. Would you consider Winn-Dixie an organization that exhibits characteristics of progressive discipline or the hot stove approach? Defend your position.

Wilkerson Company Case Study

Wilkerson Company Case Study in $5 only

The decline in our profits has become intolerable. The severe price cutting in pumps has dropped our pre-tax margin to less than 3%, far below our historical 10% margins. Fortunately, our competitors are overlooking the opportunities for profit in flow controllers. Our recent 10% price increase in that line has been implemented without losing any business.

Robert Parker, president of the Wilkerson Company, was discussing operating results in the latest month with Peggy Knight, his controller, and John Scott, his manufacturing manager. The meeting among the three was taking place in an atmosphere tinged with apprehension because competitors had been reducing prices on pumps, Wilkerson’s major product line. Since pumps were a commodity product, Parker had seen no alternative but to match the reduced prices to maintain volume. But the price cuts had led to declining company profits, especially in the pump line (summary operating results for the previous month, March 2000, are shown in Exhibit 1 and 2).

Case Study – Lower Extremity

Case Study – Lower Extremity in $9 only

Presentation/History

At the beginning of the soccer season a 20-year-old college student participated in strenuous filed practice extending through the whole afternoon. Later in the evening he experienced severe pain over the anterolateral aspect of his right leg, radiating down toward the angle. The next afternoon he went back to the field and continued to play, but the pain in his right leg became so severe that he had to limp off the field. The pain persisted throughout the night and the next morning he consulted a physician.

Examination

On examination there is reddening and swelling over the anterolateral aspect of his right leg. On palpation this area is extremely tender, it feels hard and warmer than other parts of the leg. The hardening extends from two inches below the tibial tuberosity to the junction of the middle and lower thirds of the leg and seems to correspond to the belly of the tibialis anterior muscle. Dorsiflexion of foot and toes is severely limited. The pulses in the anterior tibial and dorsalis pedis arteries are present. His body temperature is slightly elevated.

Markets are mechanisms for coordinating the set of connections of production operations that are distributed throughout the whole economic system. Thus, the market is the predominant and determining link between producers of goods and services and consumers. Accordingly, markets, as an exchange of goods and services that takes place as a result of buyers and sellers interactions, are generally considered the most efficient allocator of resources in the market economy.
However, free markets are not allowed to solve some of the social problems in a society due to various reasons. One such social problem is illegal drugs. Another example is environmental such as pollutions. For an additional example for a social problem, where supply and demand is not allowed to freely function, read the “Last Word” feature on markets for human organs on Pages 68–69 of your textbook. There are black markets (underground economy) for human organs in some countries. But a trade in human organs, based on supply and demand, raises ethical issues and hence it indicates a limitation of relying on markets to solve the social problems we have in the society.
You can write your research about social problems where the free markets are not allowed to function, which includes the market for a particular illegal good or service, a regulated market, etc.

  • Select a social problem where free markets are not allowed to function and conduct research on the social problem.
  • Describe how free market features could be introduced to help alleviate the social problem through free market operations of supply and demand.
  • Discuss the risks of introducing market mechanisms of supply and demand in situations where ethical issues are present.

Your answer should be approximately 5 pages long and should be formatted in APA style. Cite at least three references for the paper.

Case Study: Ulster Carpet Mills Limited

Case Study: Ulster Carpet Mills Limited in $1.95 only

Ulster Carpet Mills Limited, finalist for the European Quality Award (EQA), has doubled its share of the quality carpet sector in recent years and now holds over 10 per cent of the world market for its products. By encouraging continuous improvement through self-assessment against the EFQM Excellence Model, EQA has created the necessary drive for customer focus. The company’s total quality process has graduated from ‘total customer satisfaction’ to ‘total customer delight’, to its present form – ‘bridging the gap’, which is effectively a ‘where we are’ and ‘where we should be’ yardstick for the company.

Developments in the warehouse are typical. The role of the manager/supervisor has been replaced by the nomination of a group leader who acts in a ‘leading role’, working within the team. According to one Director, ‘it was time to move away from a command-and-control situation and evolve towards a more team-oriented organization’. The group leader with her team, each of whom is trained to carry out his/her main job plus five others work on a rotating work rota. Fixed hours are a thing of the past, as is overtime. At peak times, such as the run-up to Christmas, the team works the required hours (be it until 10 pm at night) to dispatch orders, and at off-peak times, when work is completed to the satisfaction of the group leader, the team can leave. New technology now means that dispatch labels and address labels are computer generated and the carpets are bar-coded which reduces the possibility of human error. Each process within the warehouse has been analysed and re-engineered to answer the question, ‘Do the processes meet the customer needs?’

Although it is believed by Ulster Carpet Mills Limited that the customer needs are met, a number of customers complain about late delivery and about the scratches on the plastic that protects carpets from damage during handling and transportation. The drivers insist that the handling of goods has been done in accordance with the transportation procedures. The dispatch Department assures that the packages left the factory in a good condition and must have been damaged on the customer’s site. In few occasions carpets were slightly damaged and had to be replaced. The company sees the use of the EFQM Excellence Model as a means of evaluation, as well as raising internal awareness of the measures necessary to meet external needs. In addition, the company considers adopting Deming’s 14 points for quality improvement.

Ulster Carpet Mills limited decides to adopt another quality methodology in a foreign branch (like the United States) for one of its company.
1. Suggest other quality measures Ulster Carpet Mills could adopt
2. Identify and evaluate how these measures could be used to diagnose contemporary problems
3. Develop a quality management plan (from any of the suggestions above) for Ulster Carpet Mills

Southern Baptist Hospital (SBH) Case Study

Southern Baptist Hospital (SBH) Case Study (Instant Download)

Southern Baptist Hospital (SBH) had long resisted the use of marketing, believing it was not an appropriate activity for a nonprofit organization. By the mid-1980s, however, the erosion of its market share due to growing competition forced SBH to adopt an aggressive marketing strategy.

Its primary initiative was a campaign of television advertisements aimed to reinforce for the general public the image of SBH as a high-quality institution. Because the organization was starting its marketing activities from scratch, ad production and airtime costs were expensive. The television commercials were professionally produced and received critical acclaim from the advertising community.

Following the public’s repeated exposure to these advertisements, a hospital executive requested information about the impact of the advertisements. The idea to study the campaign’s impact had not been considered earlier, and a belated evaluation effort was mounted to determine the extent to which the campaign had achieved the desired effect. Much to the consternation of SBH administrators, the evaluation found that the ads had had virtually no impact on the public’s already high perception of the institution, and no improvement in patient volumes, revenues, or market share could be attributed to the campaign.
