Frankie is bothered about school because he gets in trouble, he can’t play soccer because they already started and he won’t be allowed to play and he does not get to have all the recess time. He is quite athletic as he was asked to join a competitive youth soccer team which plays on Saturdays and Sundays.   Elizabeth strongly shares that Sundays are to be spent at church and with the family. After church, Bob confirmed, they usually spend the day with his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. Elizabeth gets to be by herself on Sunday mornings and joins the rest of the family at 1.00 which disturbs Bob who stated that she needs time for herself more than she needs God and her family. He suggested she should appreciate her family more because it’s the only family she’s got.

Vargas family of origin was discussed in a session to gather information about their families. Bob has a sister called Katie whose husband, Steve, died the previous year when the car he was driving hit a block wall. Elizabeth things he was intoxicated at the time but Bob strongly denies this allegation. He warned her to never again suggest alcohol was involved. Bob’s biological father was alcoholic whose mother divorced when he was 3 and Katie 5. His mother remarried Noel who is the only dad he ever knew. Elizabeth was adopted by her Parents Rita and Gary who were in their early 40s at the time. Their biological daughter Susan had died 10 years early after Rita accidentally ran over her while speeding out of the drive way. Rita never recovered from the trauma and she remained withdrawn throughout Elizabeth’s life. Elizabeth spent most of her adolescence in her room reading so that she doesn’t upset her. She saw her mother struggle with depression as a child but she used to think it was her.

Frankie was suspended from school. Bob had agreed to go with him to work and put him to work as a consequence of his suspension but the two of them spent the day having fun. Heidi got another gold star in her test, was picked to be a helper, she scored two goals in soccer and made new friends.  Elizabeth was distressed about Bob actions. Bob made the incident that resulted to Frankie’s suspension look small and accused Elizabeth of overreaction. Frankie said his Mom always gets mad.

Bob later apologized to Elizabeth for handling the suspension wrongly. He complained Elizabeth still holds a grudge. He doesn’t understand why she gets very upset and he wants her to be happy. Elizabeth acknowledged the apology as a start and explained that bob never listens. He said he does but he gets frustrated because he doesn’t know how to fix it. The both made an effort not to raise their voices and they were pleased with the conduct. Bob was frustrated with Frankie’s repeated need of redirection and many reminders to finish his chores and noted a raise in Heidi’s demand for attention. Heidi shared that she listens because she doesn’t want her mother to be sad. She blamed her brother for causing Mommy and Daddy’s fight.
